Gas scrubbers or air pollution control systems are used to remove particles and/or exhaust gases from industrial streams by intercepting them with a scrubbing liquid. They are also used for suction of vapors and gases generated in various industrial processes.
Ventex has developed gas scrubbers based on their experience in applying technology to improve the environment, health, and production processes. These scrubbers are designed for continuous and automatic operation.
Depending on the application, gas scrubbers can be made of:
- High-density polyethylene
- Fiberglass
- Stainless steel
- Carbon steel
Traditionally, the term “scrubbing” has referred to pollution control devices that use liquids to wash unwanted contaminants from a gas stream. Recently, the term is also used to describe systems that inject a dry reagent or suspension into a dirty exhaust stream to wash out acidic gases.
These materials used in gas scrubbers need to be resistant to corrosion and abrasion due to the presence of gases such as SO2. Gas scrubbers have a wide range of particle collection efficiency for different particle sizes. They can remove particles or gases through impact or interception with a scrubbing liquid.
One of the main mechanisms used by gas scrubbers to remove dust is to increase the size of the particles so that they can be easily removed. The second mechanism is to trap wet particles in a liquid layer and have them carried away and removed by the liquid stream. Almost all gas scrubbers have a gas-liquid contact section followed by a section where wet particles are removed by inertia forces.
Gas scrubbers are essential for controlling gas emissions, especially acidic gases. They can also be used for heat recovery from hot gases through condensation of combustion gases. The main advantage of gas scrubbers is the ability to remove particles and gases simultaneously. Additionally, acidic or alkaline solutions can be used instead of water to neutralize the gases.
It should be noted that the smaller the dust particles, the easier it is to remove them, but the pressure drop will be higher.
